About The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE)

ISE exists to provide global education through shipboard learning and field experiences in multiple countries around the world.

Tracing its roots to 1963, ISE administers the multi-country study abroad program Semester at Sea as well as Enrichment Voyages, a travel and learn program, and the Forum on Global Engagement. The mission of ISE is to educate individuals with the global understanding necessary to address the challenges of our interdependent world.

Our unique approach to international education integrates interdisciplinary coursework, comparative study of countries and cultures around the world, and hands-on field exploration for meaningful engagement in the global community. ISE is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit based in Charlottesville, Virginia.

About Enrichment Voyages

Enrichment Voyages began in 1993 with a Caribbean voyage in early January. Back then Enrichment Voyages was called Seminar at Sea, a name that encouraged the same experiences of international cultural exploration as Semester at Sea voyages, but with travelers of all ages. Even with a new name, Enrichment Voyages still encompasses the same goals as back then–to give participants the opportunity to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, connect with different people onboard the ship and off, and to discover how you fit into an interconnected world.
